Hospitality Action reveals the scale of hospitality's hidden hardship in new impact report

New figures show millions in grants, thousands of counselling sessions and a growing need for support across the UK hospitality sector.

Hospitality Action has published its latest Impact Report, revealing the extraordinary scale of support it has provided to hospitality workers and highlighting the growing challenges facing the industry's people.

The report demonstrates how the charity has continued to support individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, mental health challenges and personal crises, with more than £5 million distributed in grants since 2020 alongside tens of thousands of calls to its helpline and counselling sessions.

It also illustrates the breadth of Hospitality Action's work, from emergency financial assistance and debt advice to mental health services, its Employee Assistance Programme and Golden Friends initiative, which combats loneliness among retired hospitality professionals.

The report paints a powerful picture of the human stories behind the statistics and underlines why the charity's work remains as vital as ever for an industry built on caring for others.

Nicola Macdonald, PR Director at HRC and an Ambassador for Hospitality Action, said: "Hospitality is an industry built on looking after people, but behind the scenes many of those same people are facing incredibly difficult circumstances. Hospitality Action provides a lifeline when it's needed most, offering practical, emotional and financial support to those who have dedicated their careers to our sector.

"The figures in this report are remarkable, but they're only part of the story. Every statistic represents someone whose life has been changed through the charity's support. I would encourage everyone working in hospitality to take a few minutes to read the report, understand the impact Hospitality Action is making and consider how they can help ensure this vital work continues."

Among the report's highlights are:

• More than £5 million awarded in grants since 2020.
• More than 15,000 grants provided to hospitality households.
• More than 38,000 calls answered through the charity's helpline.
• Over 11,000 counselling sessions delivered.
• More than 200,000 employees and their families supported through Hospitality Action's Employee Assistance Programme.
• More than 2,000 retired hospitality professionals supported through the Golden Friends befriending service.

The charity says the report reflects not only the support delivered over recent years, but also the continuing need for a dedicated safety net for hospitality workers across the UK.
