Hospitality businesses prepare for a jam-packed Jubilee weekend

Hospitality businesses prepare for a jam-packed Jubilee weekend

As the UK prepares for the weekend of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne, hospitality businesses are busy preparing for an influx of customers eager to celebrate the big day. HRC took a look at some of campaigns, initiatives and promotions hotels and bars are implementing ahead of this big weekend for hospitality.

Following the government's announcement that pub opening hours could be extended from 11pm to 1am, Home Secretary Priti Patel commented: "The Platinum Jubilee is a truly historic national occasion, which will see families, friends and communities across the country come together to celebrate this unprecedented landmark in a remarkable reign.”

“Over the extended bank holiday weekend, we will be able to raise a glass to toast Her Majesty’s incredible service to our country, while also providing a boost to the hospitality industry after a challenging couple of years.”

Katie Jenkins, Marketing Director at KAM, told HRC: "Jubilee weekend is set to be full of celebrating and excess with 4-in-5 Brits intending to mark the occasion in some way. Pubs and restaurants should prepare for considerable footfall, with more than 1-in-3 adults intending to visit over the extended bank holiday. Nearly 1-in-4 intend to get order a take-away that weekend so an all round great opportunity for hospitality venues."

Steven Alton, CEO of the British Institute of Innkeeping commented: “After the incredibly tough time our nations’ pubs have had over the past few years, this Summer’s Jubilee celebrations provide a very welcome opportunity for everyone to come together over the extended Bank Holiday weekend.

“With parties, BBQs, festivals and much more planned in pubs across the UK, this June will enable our members to begin their summer trading on a high note. We can’t wait to raise a glass with friends and family in our locals!”

An estimated 90 million pints will be sold over the course of the bank holiday weekend, resulting in a £105million boost for the trade.

London landmarks

Across the capital, hotels and bars are planning a number of activations and events to make the most of the Jubilee weekend. The Orchid Lounge at Pan Pacific London has unveiled The Superbloom Afternoon Tea, masterfully created by Executive Pastry Chef Cherish Finden, inspired by the neighbouring Tower of London's floral jubilee display.

Over at The Rose & Crown, Clapham Old Town's favourite female-led pub, a new Jubilee Dessert has been unveiled. Created in the image of the iconic British postage stamp, Her Royal Majesty's unmistakeable profile adorns a glossy pillow of strawberry gel covered honey and white chocolate parfait. The playful design and quintessential British summertime pairing of strawberries and cream earns it the status of a first class dessert.

Leicester Square's all-new super-boutique hotel The Londoner has launched The Jubilee Summer Series, a 30-day celebration to mark the Jubilee which celebrates the the very best of British luxury, heritage and culture.

Amir Jati, Creative Director of Food & Beverage at Edwardian Hotels London, has created a collection of culinary experiences to enrich with royal flavour. Afternoon Tea at The Stage has added some regal touches to its ever-opulent offering. Inspired by Her Majesty’s fondness for the classic chocolate biscuit cake, Executive Pastry Chef, Dale DeSimone, has crafted an elegant tribute in form Sovereign’s Choice, a delicate combination of Valrhona chocolate and buttery British shortbread, decorated with a ‘platinum’ shimmer. The Stage will also serve an exclusive cocktail, The Earl. A champagne blend using Buckingham Palace gin, Earl Grey Tea, Dubonnet topped with Veuve Clicquot NV and British clotted cream for a smooth and silky finish.

London Bridge's Vinegar Yard will be transformed, street party-style, for the Jubilee weekend and it has brought in East London bakery The Proof to supply the puddings. Customers will have the opportunity to tuck into Union Jack cakes, strawberry Eton Mess, 'Proofiteroles', and Lizzie Sponges with buttercream, strawberry jam & raspberries, with Jubilee cocktails available across the four days too.
