In the latest in HRC's Hospitality Insights series Pedro Mendes, General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott London City Airport, discusses tech-driven AI, wellness integration and delivering memorable guest experiences.

Tell us a bit about your business and your role

I run the Courtyard by Marriott London City Airport, and I am the General Manager, I have a restaurant on site and looking to keep up with the new trends in the industry.

Why are you planning to attend HRC this year?

To have a good look around and see new trends and where is the industry taking us this year.

How do you approach sourcing new products for your business?

We are very privileged here because we can source locally produced products and other outside the normal supply chain. Fine food and wines are a must, and we currently sell some very interesting lines here at the Courtyard.

What do you think are some of the major trends we’ll see this year in the hospitality sector?

  • Sustainability Takes Centre Stage
  • Tech-Driven Guest Experiences
  • Personalisation through AI
  • Rise of Boutique and Niche Establishments
  • Health and Wellness Integration
  • Remote Work-Friendly Spaces.

What do you love most about working in the hospitality industry?

It’s such a privilege to do what you like, I feel proud of welcoming all my guests with arms wide open, to drive a culture to deliver memorable experiences and at the same time run a very profitable, diverse, and interesting business.

A customer facing business is not for everyone but, if you love those interactions, you are in the right place!
